1969年，日本体育报纸《报知新闻》的记者在采访中获知，狮子队的永易将之投手存在收受黑社会财物打假球的黑幕。随即，该报记者和日本第一大报《读卖新闻》联合展开调查。结果发现确有其事。同年10月8日，假球事件成了两报的头条。该报道只是一个引子。后来棒球委员会调查发现，该队中有6人经永易介绍与黑社会见了面，并被收买打假球。
5 \- |" Z) R8 x* v$ ?! m s9 W6 ]棒球委员会对问题球员分别处以终身禁赛、当年赛季停赛或严重警告的处分。随后，该队伍的人气也一落干丈，门票无人买，比赛无人看，成绩急剧下滑。1972年，经营不下去的球队被出售。事情到此并未了结。假球不光是狮子队一个队的问题，更演变成了一个备受瞩目的社会问题。此后，东映队、南海队、大洋队等多支球队共计18名队员被查出参与假球，分别受到了不同程度的处分。
) l6 R5 T5 x6 D$ d2 L0 n0 u7 c有人曾说，“黑雾事件”不过是冰山一角，如果彻底追究，日本棒球界就会全军覆没。虽然这可能有些耸人听闻，但经过该事件后，日本棒球界进行了深刻反省，从加强法律严惩和强化球员道德教育两方面进行了努力。
